Both solved their problems with unlocked phones. Cellular carriers, particularly in the U.S., usually lock the
phones they sell so they work only with that carrier's network. However, unlocked phones are readily available
that can enable owners to more easily switch cellular operators and to get more features and services than

I prefer to enjoy relaxed conversations and business interactions on my land-line.
I can hear better and I find my land-line is more reliable.
It does not require a battery to use.
A land-line offers a mechanical link to the address to report utility outages and
emergency services when the power is out.
A land line is required for private"life-alert" type subscription services.
A cordless phone will not work during a power outrage.
The base requires electricity to operate.
The base is the source which sends and receives the signal
for the cordless "home" phone.
Many people rely on a cell phone only.
Experts recommend to have both a land line and a cell phone.
It is my experience, that a land-line phone connected with a phone cord works after
tornadoes and extended power outages.
Cell towers are sometimes in-operable due to power outage or are toppled by high
wind or earthquake.
Corded land line phones that do not require a/c power for dial tone also work even
when the power is out, an important contingency to build into home emergency plans.

The Importance of Storing Emergency Contacts
IN CASE OF EMERGENCY PHONE NUMBERS"ICE"
We all carry our mobile phones with names & numbers stored in its memory but nobody, other
than ourselves, knows which of these numbers belong to our closest family or friends.
Crime prevention experts warn us NOT to store numbers as "spouse" or "mom" in case the
phone falls into the wrong hands. Just remember NOT to give out passwords, and pin
numbers quickly over the phone. Do not rely on caller ID as fail-proof ID if a person asks for
sensitive information. However, if one day you cannot speak, you need to have at least two
emergency contacts on your land line speed dial and in your cell phone.
If involved in an accident or were taken ill, the people attending us may have our mobile
phone but may not know who to call. Yes, there are hundreds of numbers stored but which
one is the contact person in case of an emergency?
One solution: the "ICE" (In Case of Emergency) Campaign
The concept of "ICE" is catching on quickly. It is a method of contact during emergency
situations. As cell phones are carried by the majority of the population, all you need to do is
store the number of a contact person or persons who should be contacted during emergency
under the name "ICE" ( In Case Of Emergency).
The idea was thought up by a paramedic who found that when he went to the scenes of
accidents, there were always mobile phones with patients, but they didn't know which number
to call. He therefore thought that it would be a good idea if there was a nationally recognized
name for this purpose. In an emergency situation, Emergency Service personnel and hospital
Staff would be able to quickly contact the right person by simply dialing the number you have
stored as "ICE."
For more than one contact name simply enter ICE1, ICE2 and ICE3 etc.
